Detroit Tigers (35-47) @ Chicago White Sox (39-42)

There are few things I like more than betting against a struggling star. They always get the public money in their favor and it leaves a lot of value on the table for sharps. That case is strong tonight when the Tigers come down to south side Chicago. Lucas Giolito starts for the White Sox tonight amidst a struggling 2022 campaign. He’s put together two solid performances in his last two against the Giants and Angels, but he’s one of the most likely starters to get blown up this year. He’s only of only 4 pitchers this year to give up 6 ER three different times. What this says the most to me is that Tony La Russa has his leash a little too loose.

Another factor in the low total is the 2-1 finish these two had last night. But I would almost call that an anomaly. The White Sox started Dylan Cease who’s on a Cy Young campaign and Beau Brieske who’s raw but can be lethal when he brings it. The Tigers and White Sox have both been hitting the ball well this year and should have no issues getting over 8 runs tonight.

The Oneil Cruz train is taking off and I will be on it. In an almost hopeless season, the electric rookie has been something for the Pirates fans to cheer for. To be clear I don’t think the Pirates have the juice to win this one against the Brewers but this is a great opportunity for home runs. Aaron Ashby is a home run waiting to happen these days, giving up 6 jacks in his last 5 starts (that’s 1.2 jacks per start for the non-math friendly). His last start was even in Pittsburgh when the Pirates thrashed him for 4 runs over 3 innings. Take the Pirates power hitter tonight to pick up where they left off.

Austin Riley is a much safer bet and a good pair for the low odds rookie. Riley has been as hot as any hitter recently, with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and a .482 average over the last week. Erick Fedde is not likely the starter to change that. In 18 career at bats against Fedde, Riley has hit .389 with 4 RBIs. His odds of getting contact are high and this year he’s getting a lot of contact over the fence.
