Washington Nationals (36-70) @ Philadelphia Phillies (56-48)

The trade deadline has come and gone and there are some real shake ups on both sides of the league. The Padres we’re the ultimate buyer – winning the Juan Soto sweepstakes and sneaking a deal in for Josh Hader as well. They’ll be making a full stand for what might be the toughest (definitely the most top heavy) division in baseball. But they’re not the only ones making moves, our bet tonight is on the Phillies who made their own big acquisition who will start tonight – Noah Syndergaard. Thor is no stranger to pitching against the Nationals either, with over ten appearances against them in his 6 years with the Mets.

Speaking of the Nationals, it’s hard to find a club that’s quite so dejected. A failed extension for Soto was only the beginning, losing him and Josh Bell and Hosmer rejecting Washington as a destination in the trade. The inspiration to win games is very low at the moment. Still, Paolo Espino is a solid starter with above average statistics in most categories. That said, he’s struggled mightily against the Phillies this year, giving up 6 runs in only 8 innings pitched. It’s a recipe for disaster for the Nats and I’m happy to bet the other side.

Home Run Parlay

We’ve touched on Paolo Espino and his struggles against the Phillies already, but we haven’t even touched the dominant performance of Kyle Schwarber. He’s hit two home runs in only 6 at bats against Espino, with another hit to boot. That’s a .500 career average. And yes it’s a small sample size but at 35 I don’t see Espino changing his approach all that much. Schwarber should be practically even odds to go yard tonight.

The young stud is making his second appearance in the home run parlay and for good reason. Tonight at home the young shortstop is facing Nick Pivetta for the Red Sox, one of the most hittable starts in the league. His ERA is average to slightly below average but with 16 home runs given up this year, he’s one of the top candidates for this parlay. Bobby Witt has been hot recently as well, with a home run just last night against the White Sox (not a hitter friendly park) and 2 in his last 6 games. He rounds out the parlay with some great value.
