$FML's Best Bet for NHL Monday - 2/6

The Hughes bros don’t clash often (2x/year), but when they do: it’s usually a wise choice to back Jack (21) over his older brother, Quinn (23).

Quinn plays defense for the Canucks, and the brotherly competition seems to inspire Jack — an explosive scoring forward — to elevate his game. The younger Hughes lit the lamp (i.e. scored a goal) and recorded an assist to cash his 2+ points prop in each of his last 3 games vs. Quinn. Looking back further: Jack’s scored at least 1 goal in 4 of their 5 career H2H matchups.

Family storyline aside — Jack’s also riding hot. His 2+ points prop is currently on a 9-3 (75%) run in his last 12 games and 4-0 at Prudential Center where they’ll skate tonight.

Meanwhile, Vancouver allows the 2nd most goals this season (3.92) and are trending in a downward spiral. In the last 2 weeks, they’ve both fired their coach and traded away their captain. It’s clearly a transition period for a Canucks group that lacks leadership in the locker room right now.

Last but not least: I like how the matchup has a relatively high game total (o/u 6.5), while New Jersey is heavily favored. Good recipe for scoring props!
