Home Run Parlay

Two heavy hitters on the home run slate today and each have a really good chance. Rafael Devers is campaigning for AL MVP this year with a .333 average and 17 home runs. Tonight he’ll face Ross Stripling who is no slouch but the 32 year old isn’t likely to go past the 6th inning, if he even gets that far. Following that, the Blue Jays have one of the worst bullpens in the league. If Devers can’t get one early, he’ll have a great chance to get one late.

Speaking of AL MVP, Yordan Alvarez is right in the mix as well, with 22 home runs himself. He’ll have the platoon advantage over Carlos Carrasco who has been very hittable this year. In a primetime matchup Alvarez is too tempting to pass up, especially with how coincidentally the balls seem to have a lot more pop when the game is nationally broadcast.

Los Angeles Dodgers (45-27) @ Colorado Rockies (32-42)

Last night the Dodgers and Rockies had the highest expected total of the year so far, rising up as high as 12.5 on some books. The score ended up shockingly low, mostly due to an excellent performance from Chad Kuhl, who held the Dodgers scoreless and to only 3 hits and no walks. That’s unlikely to happen to the Dodgers ever, let alone at Coors Field.

But I’m not ready to call it a total fluke. The Dodgers bats have been slower than expected, and although they have excuses with lots of injuries, that doesn’t change the result. So take yesterday’s result and add a major pitching upgrade for the Dodgers with Kershaw. He hasn’t given up more than 2 runs since his second start of the year in April. Yes he missed some time but since returning his last 3 starts have been excellent. I think the Dodgers will be able to hold the Rockies to a very low total and win the game handily. If they score 10 themselves and ruin this under, I can live with that.
