TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! As everyone and their mom knows, Luka has never scored 30 or more points vs the Wolves, but the streak ends tonight and let me tell you why.
First of all, Patrick Beverly guarded Luka in both games last year and got him out of his game fairly easily, limiting Luka to only 24 (@ MIN) and 15 points. Pat Bev is no longer on the Wolves. The Wolves aren't in the best form guarding point guards this season (especially recently) allowing the 2nd most points to PG and the 2nd most 3s. Recently point guards in back to back games killed Minnesota: Shai dropped 33 then 35 points and Lilliard dropped 36 and then 38 in their back to back games vs the Wolves.
Luka played them last game scoring just 19 points, BUT he (along with Jason Kidd) got ejected later in the third quarter. This is great news for tonight's game because 1. they should get way more foul calls (mainly how Luka plays) and 2. Luka will be aggressive especially because not only did he get ejected, they lost that game. This is a big reason why we took Ja Morant last night, he got ejected from the game before and he came out really aggressive yesterday. Add in the fact that Gobert and Towns, MIN's rim protectors, are not healthy (Towns ruled out, Gobert questionable) and we're looking at the stars aligning for Luka to FINALLY drop 30+ vs the Timberwolves. On top of all of that Luka has scored 30+ (mostly 40+) in EVERY WIN FOLLOWING A LOSS.
Let's do it.
