The Indiana Pacers are visiting the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night hoping to get to their second win of the season but knowing that the Bulls have won five of the last six games against the Pacers, that will be pretty difficult.
The Chicago Bulls have already seen ups and downs this season. They are hosting the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night after splitting the first four games of the season. After winning the season opener in Miami, the Bulls went on to lose to the Washington Wizards and the Cleveland Cavaliers before handing the Boston Celtics their first loss of the season. In the 120-102 home win over the C’s, DeMar DeRozan led the way with 25 points. He scored at least 25 points in three of the first four games and again will be one of the best scorers in the league. The good news for the Bulls is that Zack LaVine’s back issues are in the past and the high-flying guard can be an elite scoring option for the team. With Lonzo Ball still out, the Bulls coach Billy Donovan is sharing the minutes at the point between LaVine, Goran Dragic and Coby White who are all doing a solid job.
The Indiana Pacers will travel to Chicago for their second road game of a five-game road trip. After breaking down the roster last year, the Pacers are still searching for identity and a real leader and under those circumstances, the 1-3 start was expected. The Pacers lost to the Washington Wizards and the San Antonio Spurs at home before defeating the Detroit Pistons. In the first game of the road trip, the Pacers lost 120-106 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Tyrese Haliburton led the team with 19 points and has an average of 24 points per game for the season. Still, the Pacers top story is the sixth pick of the 2022 NBA draft Bennedict Mathurin who is averaging 22.3 points per game and has already got the attention after his statements in which he challenged none other than LeBron James.
No wonder the Bulls are -7.5 points favorites going into this one as they have great players in every spot on the team. Other than DeRozan and LaVine, center Nikola Vucevic is a double-double machine who may even have an easier task against the Pacers as their center Daniel Theis is listed as questionable. The Bulls have won the last three games against the Pacers and this will be another one covering the spread of -7.5.
The Chicago Bulls will be the team that will set the tone in this game. They are a decent defensive team allowing 110 points per game while their scoring is currently 22nd in the league with only 108 points per game. Both numbers are much higher if we look at the Pacers stats as they are scoring 117.8 per game and allowing 121.5. Both teams have been shooting poorly from deep in the opening week of the season as the Pacers are at 33.1% and the Bulls even worse, at 28.3%. Knowing that 4 of the last 5 games between these two teams have ended under the given total point margin for this game, the conclusion is clear that 233.5 points are a little too high for this game.
