The Wizards are playing? Quick, look who the opposing teams big man is and check their rebound and double double lines. In what is becoming sort of a system play, tonight’s candidate is Jalen Smith of the Indians Pacers. Even with the return of Myles Turner to the lineup on Wednesday night, Smith remained a starter, playing 29 minutes and compiling 15 points and 9 boards. With one more rebound, he would have recorded his third straight double double of the young season. Since his trade over from the Phoenix Suns, Smiths minutes and production have more than doubled, looking to validate why he was taken 10th overall in the 2020 draft. He is a prototypical modem day big man, able to play in the post as well as step outside and knock down a three. Smith has hit the o7.5 rebounds in four of five games this year and is always a threat for a double double. The Wizards remain in the top 10 for both points and rebounds allowed to the center position, after allowing yet another solid performance Tuesday, Isaiah Stewart 13 and 10. Let’s hope this trend continues and Smith becomes the next in a long line of big men to dominate the Wizards.
