There has been several Spurs players that have benefitted by the Derrick White trade to the Celtics at the deadline, but Lonnie Walker seems to be the main beneficiary. Thankfully he plays shooting guard for the Spurs, a position the Hornets struggle mightily to cover.
Don’t panic when the game begins and Lonnie is not out there to start the game. He’s the 6th man for the Spurs, which I like even more than starting because it gives the Spurs chances to stagger Walker and Murray minutes leaving short periods of time where Lonnie is arguably the top scoring option. Lonnie has now scored 17 or more 7 games in a row, and is coming off a season high 30 point effort. He is averaging 16 field goal attempts over that span and has scored 20 or more in 5 of the last 6.
Charlotte is a great spot to continue his hot stretch. The Hornets allow the 4th most points and the most 3s to shooting guards. Charlotte plays at the fastest pace in the NBA and the Spurs are not far behind at the 5th fastest team. This has the makings of a solid ladder spot for Lonnie.
